31.12.13

**

The Universe blessed us with a super moon to start the year! Super moons are called because of their geographic closeness to Earth. There are 5 through the year and we are happy to have one to begin. Being a new moon, the knowledgeable people say it's a moment to root. And to search our feminine side, man and women if this planet. Would be a great step to humanity!
*
In 2014 we will have of corse more to think, to balance, to worry but  new seeds are coming to make it worth. And the big house doesn't give you more then you can bare... So let's embrace the new windows, the chances, and make our life cozier, say good things, be kind, generous, open and above all free!
I feel the respect this moon inspires but I see some clarity, care and more sense.

Venerate life, beauty and simplicity!

*
Look for the present, where all is perfect. For 2014 I wish to be present and aligned with quality. Using this present to thank all for being, you are the best friends and family I could wish for. And leave a huge kiss to my husband from the heart for sharing this adventure with me.
Thank you moon, happy new year!

29.12.13
Aqui fica o melhor do mundo, as minhas crianças!

Feliz Ano Novo!

*******
so much happened since my last post... another transition moment, changes and challenging trips.
the last full moon as passed, as well as the december solstice, from the shortest day of the year (where I happen to be for the festivities) to the longest (in bali where I live for exactly a year). In the Western days are growing again and the worst times are gone. the winter solstice is actually so important that it originated Christmas as we know it nowadays. this date was venerated by the ancient people, spiritually connected with space and time and our human essence. for them it meant the beginning of the times of light and a kind of mysticism related with feminism...
what a bless to be in the West for the festivities. last year I had just arrived in Bali with my family... in reality there is no Christmas time in Bali... but the spirit is there every day. Bali is itself the celebration of life, birth, of restarts.
*
the end of the year brings us to reflection, the heavens and the gods engage us to interiorise and embrace what has happened, what we left un-finished, at plans.
2013 has been deeply challenging for many of us. for myself was the move to Bali, leaving my comfort zone :) sometimes difficult, I can easily say now. Bali gives a lot, its a cleaning and challenging process, higher then you can imagine. I am blessed for this experience in this life.
*
2012 was the year for the end of the karmic times and the emerging of a new era. its coming but new ages don't come overnight :) its a comic plan where everything is beauty and sense, all is meant and perfect.
to accept life with ease and serenity is the big challenge. life is this, not easy or difficult, its a blessing we happen to experiment. to change is also in our wills. its a recognition we are part of a magic Universe going to a magic place where all is good.
*
2014 brings something special I feel. just the fact it starts with a new moon. its a natural re-birth, transformation, new beginning. its a sign for us :) a good one.
maybe you can invest in yourself? start a practice, yoga, meditation, gym, or swimming... just something that makes you feel good and strong, a daily practice that keeps you going.
*
my dearest and beloved friend Rita Ferro who is a caring mother, a talented journalist, an amazing and inspiring photographer gave me this special present :)

1.12.13

Mark and Joanne Darby were the revelation for me at this Conference. What a couple, he is a very special, humble and simple man. She is an incredible yogini with the most remarkable stories. a Mysore love story. they lived in India, they had a baby in India in the 70´s!! Guruji married them... he put them together when Darby had no more money and she had to take him in her house behind the shala. "Darby is a good man", he told her "you have plenty space, you take him". too good.
he is scientist, every touch is like a magic alignment and you feel light. Got some good stuff from him. The padmasana won a bit of lung space with his touch, the matshyasana a new tip ;) and the Sirsasana
felt just perfect.
She did not adjust me, well maybe next time :)

*

Today is Krisnamacharya birthday. This man actually made possible that today yoga is spread and known as we know it. Blessings to him.

“To the yogi, all experience is seen as one, as a means to help him cultivate devotion.”

“Inhale, and God approaches you. Hold the inhalation, and God remains with you. Exhale, and you approach God. Hold the exhalation, and surrender to God.”

on the 4th day of the conference my internet was off... I accepted it very calmly, what else could I actually do, the Universe was telling me to focus on this amazing time I was given with fabulous teachers...
the energy becomes more gentle, we all know each other by now. Practicing around 100 people is quite impressive an the energy is amazingly good. And we had the world in a room, all continents were there, Africa, Asia, America, Europe.  Its a family. Ashtanga love is shared around.
*
On my Virabhadrasana A I felt these soft hands pulling my harms outwards, I couldn't really see who it was but I had to know...so I looked back and saw Manju... what a warm feeling, he is the sweetness in person :)
Drop backs with Mark Darby felt good, strong yet smooth...
We had Prem and Radha talking in the afternoon and it was Prem´s birthday! very special and they looked really happy with the out come of the event. Obviously a lot of emotions still to digest but believe the practice and they´re commitment with the inner world is holding them strong. Shanti is in our hearts.
We talked about Ayurveda, the sister science to yoga and how much our life style and what we eat can influence our well being. I am a vata pita person ;) I must take care that my vata (space and air) doesn't take me to outer space!! ahah. Actually today cooked ghee and came out pretty good. And eat the kitcheri that very sweet Inge left for us, pretty good. And having my new-feels like I know him since ever friend- Rafa who is a great chef we are having amazing meals in the house! he always comes out with some idea, today he brought Durian... well not so sure about that smell! :)

*
After the ladies day I could come back to the morning Puspa Puja with Annie Pace. She called me the flower girl, so sweet. Puspa means flower in sanscrit.

Practice and learn, all is coming.

I knew it would come... my moon day arrived yesterday afternoon so I took easy today, no mula bandha, did my standing and then set down with Siri and enjoyed to watch the practice. what an incredible feeling, its good to watch!!!
a beautiful shala in Ananda Cotagges in the middle of the Balinese rice fields. we are blessed. thanks to Prem and Radha who did this event.
I was talking to Manju, what a sweet person and love his golden teeth!
Mark Darby has been a revelation, the scientist of the details has Eagle defined and he is right. Eagle is another cool Hawai ashtangi assisting the teachers of the panel.
*
the afternoon talk with Dany Paradise was incredible. shamanism and yoga was the topic. all is connected and we must connect ourselves. a road full of magic once again. He is a very human yogi and yoga brought him a lot. He is a musician and yoga took him to the top musicians of the world. He taught Sting and made tours with him teaching yoga. he taught Paul Simon, Madonna, John McEnroe, you name it... amazing how humble, peaceful, attentive and generous Danny Paradise is. this is yoga.
I feel blessed.

picking up frangi pains from my garden is my morning ritual for the ashtanga conference. fresh, with a divine aroma, the flowers are used for the opening puja with Annie Pace that I am privilege to follow every morning. after washing and purifying our hands we chant a mantra to Ganesh and offer flowers to all the images in the altar. Parvati, Pathabi Jois, Shanti... we bless and ask protection. we share the energy with the room that by then is already filling up with devoted ashtangis from all over the world.
*
"more heart, less head" that´s the sentence I kept from my practice today. Annie Pace about my upward dog. do it with heart is anyways always the secret***
*
the afternoon with David Wiiliams was hilarious, what a great story teller. and what a great life! he was full on, Woodstock, Hawai, magic bus crossing Europe, pretty girls (Debbie was incredible!), India, fun, yoga, lots of yoga. David Williams has lots of magic to share.
can't wait for tomorrow
Aloha, hello, good-bye and I love you

What a bless! After some intensive days helping prem and Radha setting up everything finally today was the big day. Everybody is in such a good vib...

Had the privilege to start the morning following the Puja  with Annie pace as I had bought the flowers for the altar. Like another window of knowledge I want to learn.

After the opening mantra with Manju Jois... the Shala was so hot I was sweating before practice! Beautiful energy. People from Corea, Brasil, the Philippines (sorry for the horrible typhoon...), South Africa, all parts of Europe... Actually they make the event happen.

Then learned a new dristi from David Williams for padagustasana!! That come actually with a Jalandara Bandha.
Then Danny paradise adjusted me supta k and did drop backs with him. At the end Mark Darby gave a subtle touch in sirsasana! Good start. Mantras with manju Jois for the afternoon and sweet stories from patabhi jois. An interesting question pistachio put: why ashtangis rest Saturdays? Manju said its the oil day in India!! Castor oil and bath... ;)

The night panel was full of stories and each teacher explained how they started. Promess will tell. Now I really must sleep. Tired tired but happy***

Yes its true it has been a dream for long and now I am turning into reality... its still a new born but it came out!! *Yoga-me* wear!! I am building (with the help of the magic of my sister Leonor-artist-ashtangi-dreamer) a very cool idea for yoga clothes. I found a tailor, all will be hand-made, high end, sexy, comfortable and made for us girls!! (sorry boys, maybe if I turn to be a famous yoga-fashion-designer ahah)

yehh!! its true I am going to India for a in tire month to practice with Sharath Jois, the grand son of Pathabi Jois!
got the ticket, Mysore I am coming, its a reality for January 2014.

Feel blessed.
Be grateful to life.
The ashtanga practice, the 8 limbs of yoga, 8 steps for a purposeful and meaningfull life.
Life is really about the story you tell yourself
Stay quite, thats what I did today, enjoyed Kuningan day homy and calmly.
eat healthy... well not so sure just ordered a pizza ahah
enjoy the first rain of the season and the smell of the earth and the thunders of nature (welcome rainy season in Bali!)
remember a report (with Eddie Stern) I did for the opening of the shala of my first yoga teacher in the amazing journey in the Ashtanga** thank you Isa Guitana for re-posting ;)

Selamat Kunningan, Happy Halloween, happy Diwali, Dia dos mortos.. how incredible such different cultures honour the ancestors and celebrate the lives of whom departed at the same time.
The day of the deads is rooted in the aztecs and the celtics, a pagan holiday that comes from samhain that worships the end of the harvest season and beginning of the winter. In Ubud the rainy season started! and finished the 10-day-Galungan-Kuningan-celebration. Time for the ancestor spirits to go back to the gods :)

tomorrow total Sun Eclipse in New Moon! A new beginning for many of us! and no practice for us ashtangis** enjoy the energy, scorpio is challenging :)

Intense times in intense Ubud.

30.10.13

Sinto-me privilegiada.

 ॐ ॐ ॐ ॐ ॐ

I can't believe its coming, 10 more days and Bali will be invaded by amazing ashtanga senior teachers and practitioners for an entire week of ASHTANGA YOGA!!

Manju, the direct son of Pathabi Jois, are there more words necessary? David williams, the one that brought Ashtanga to the western world; Annie Pace, one of the most advanced women ashtangis; Mark and Joanne Darby, the love couple from Mysore; Danny Paradise, the great one that made Ashtanga as famous as it is by presenting it to stars as Madonna or Sting; and of corse the big hosts Prem and Radha, my amazing teachers.

1 week, 100 students, 7 teachers, Mysore practice, workshops and  talks where we can ask questions to this teachers, the first generation of western ashtangis, all together we have then 100 years practice in one room! isn't that amazing? I feel blessed.

After that week, another one only Manju, practicing at Prem and Radha´s beautiful shala.

All I am learning I will share one day ;) This deep immersion has a meaning in my life and can only be to pass on this knowledge (still so much to learn!). Its not an easier path, does not make life more zen as people love saying, but it really makes it with more meaning. Its a sincere spiritual practice in order to produce awakening results. Its a commitment with yourself at the end.

Here I share a text I wrote for Yogitimes about the Conference happening in 10 days. Hope you enjoy it.

*love, yoga and miracles*

I remember when I started to practice yoga in Portugal, it was something for divorced women over 50!! ahah, I remember as well that I was decided to finish my dance, my passion for many many years. It just didn't feet anymore in my life.
I still did some funny yoga classes with chants and hands together but I was lucky to meet, through my sister, Isa and Tarik and Casa Vinyasa. It was when I discovered Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga!
She was perfect, he was beautiful, their baby gorgeous, the shala warm and clear. All made sense and the practice was intense, we would come out of the practice with the idea that it was the real thing!

Many years passed and yoga is today talked everywhere, its benefits studied and worldwide accepted as a practice that physically protects and mentally guides.
only this week derspeiegel and bbd reported about yoga. I share here the links.

*love and miracles* parafraseando Emerald Star o nosso anfitrião em Pantai Putih.

full week in Bali.
after a intense full moon and a strong lunar eclipse that change my cycle and gave me busy nights :) here we are again in Bali "Christmas", Galungan. 3 party and cerimony days! The Balinese socialise, they pray, they eat, they love to talk.
For a westerner looks like Xmas as it is a family gadding. They believe the ancestors come back to Earth to see how the new generations are being taken care off, really sweet. Galungan means the victory from dharma (virtue) over a dharma (bad things, vice). One of the offering to the gods are the beautiful banjor that every house sets at its door. Its like a natural Christams tree, dressed up with sophistication and colours. They are magic.    We also got ours, with the help of Pak Dewo and Putu.

They all get busy, just as Christmas, offerings, food, ceremonies, and we like it or not, don't have a chance not to follow their party and just go with the flow. we end up socialising, apreciating Bali energies, and their devotion to the culture.  we also dressed up and had the honour to be invited to go and have lunch with a prince!

After parties and lots of people in the house I ended up exhausted. we went off to the beach, Pantai Putih, the white sand beach. Its like an elixir to breath the sea after some days in my tropical Ubud jungle :) I love Ubud´s spirit, very yogic, but after a while I need the smell of the sea, as a good Portuguese!

we went roots, so good and delicious. Love and a tent, no electricity, no hot water, loved it. we slept with the sun, recharged batteries, practiced by the ocean and slowed down my vata imbalance after those days :) being just with my girls and husband seemed a dream and all I wanted. me, the sea, the light, the blue ocean… and the feeling of freedom when snorkelling  the colourfull corals and the beautiful fishes. at the end just enjoyed myself doing some handstands and remember how life can be light. just let it go, something I learn every day more in my mat.

*love and miracles* thank you Emerald Star for the lovely weekend!

«And its all about being gentle in life», citando Prem.

Para terminar Feliz Eclipse Lunar e Lua Cheia! Full Power! e bom descanso ashtangis**

Today after our daily Mysore practice, my teachers Prem and Radha gave us a conference, an open talk, Q and A.
One hour that both teachers just share their immense knowledge that they experienced. simply and with an open heart.
so we heard about pranayama, the breath yogic techniques that come after asana stage. There are plenty and ashtanga also has its sequence... kind of secret ;)
we also taked about Ayurveda and Tantra, 2 favourite subjects for Prem. That are in-dissociated of yoga.
and we talked about life, how the practice helps us in the journey of life, with not always easy happenings. Prem just faced an extreme experience losing his 27 year old daughter Shanti, on a car accident, in Croacia. I admire the strengh talking about it a lot, sharing his feelings and his tears with us. And the humility how he just says «I have to accept it, It was her kharma». It was written it would be like that. Our human mind might try to think that maybe there was something we could have done to change it, but in fact not. That was Shanti´s destiny.

I also learned about dharma, a concept closer to purification and moral transformation of human beings. We all have our dharma, if we get to know it we might pass in this life in a smoother way. «Because all is about being gentle in this life», quoting Prem.
