moon days are sacred days

eu honro as luas

I honor moon days
this is how I was taught in the tradition of the Ashtanga Yoga practice. students and curious people  ask a lot what to to on moon days in regards to the practice. I wrote about it in this post
personally I choose these days to modify my practice, to connect with my feminine, be softer, meditate more, stay in  permanence. breath in permanence.
they say there is a legend that in moon days if we hurt ourselves it takes longer to recover ... in fact my knee made that clack ~ I still hear it ~ in a moon day. I was in Bingin, Uluwatu, spending a night with friends and my daughters and that sound came.. still affects me today. after that it was a roller coaster of facts that led to my story and my knee - pain, liquid, swelling knee. a story to one day tell in more detail 😅the fact is that I grew so much with my knee, not just on a emotional side knowing myself, my ego, forgiving, understanding, non judging. strong ones.
in fact I healed myself, with time, patience, care, letting go, acceptance. today I feel 85% good. careful present and conscious, eventually postures like padmasana or marichasana d are not the same but they are what they are and that is totally fine.
today is moon day and I write, I take care of the house and myself, I go for a walk, I say hello to special friends, I connect, I adapt my class in lisbon.
what i feel is that honouring these days and be aware of its existence opens space to create consciousness as everything is sacred. life is sacred. and us cosmic beings.
may the moon guide us in harmony.

namaste - what it means · how it feels

namaste
namaste.

namaste
what means after all this sound that we hear so much .. namaste ...
we hear it in every corner in India or at the end of yoga classes - myself I love this word and I actually use it quite a lot, feels good to me vibrating the sound of namaste...
It is usually used by joining the palms of the hands in front of the heart accompanied by a natural gesture of reverence, respect, honor - we honor one another. even in silence this gesture is beautiful and carries the same meaning and energy.
In Asia is much used - as a greeting or salutation. Nama means bow so namaste literally means «I bow to you» - the word comes from the belief that we keep a divine spark within each of us - located in the heart chakra, an acknowledgment of the soul in one by the soul in another.
It is very beautiful, if we think of the energy behind, we are not only wanting to know how the other one feels, we are recognising our Divine nature, that particle of the Universe we are which makes us cosmic beings and unique essence.
Try it: join hands in the heart chakra and feel the vibration, the flow of the Divine. feel the love in yourself, bow your head, close your eyes and surrender your mind to the Divine in the heart. Make a namaste to yourself as a meditation and go deep within yourself.
namaste allows two individuals to come together in a energetically place of connection, a place where the union of the spirits can blossom into where only beauty prevails, on a higher vibration where we don't wish to ever leave..

yoga in the feminine

1.12.16

PT
bem hajas Beta

I dedicate my post to a friend, a sister from the heart, Beta Lisboa.
because we are from the same world we offer what we are to each other. she just gave me the most amazing weekend in a secret place with a magic ancestral energy. such beautiful people together, good food and some amazing yin fascial yoga classes, a  journey to thrive for an "ashtangi" like me.
Beta was already practicing Ashtanga when I was still far from this world, she met Patthabi Jois, and opened one of the first Ashtanga Mysore Style schools in Brazil .. she is awesome! then discovered meditation, flew to other places and today has an almost encyclopedic knowledge about yoga. I learn a lot from her! definitely check her schedule.

this is a new moon week ~ the yin is the feminine, like the Moon and the night, and the yang is where the Sun is, the male star, the day, the activity. the two opposite and complementary forces in the Universe.
It is known the Asthanga as a yang practice, and we start saluting the sun. In my interpretation today of the practice, I see it quite harmonious and feminine, but perhaps because I went through very strong situations, confrontations,  proofs, in the essence masculine and didn't choose that way.

I felt good in my yin. In that encounter with the calm postures, in the permanence, in the discovery of the muladhara chackra .. in the slow and smooth breathing, in the gentleness. In that permanence that brings strength and vitality to all the systems of the body. This yin practice is built for a healthy whole, a radiant mind and a strong and aligned body as well.
Because the balance between receiving and actively offering is important. The yin or yang in perfect harmony. And since that weekend each afternoon I often take a few minutes for me and stay. I just stand in a posture to feel the waves of my mind coming in, I accept them and I let them go. In my feminine I also discover who I am. and find solution in the complement.
bless you Beta
Namaste

rising the planet consciousness

8.11.16

PT

20 novembro - Sal Festival Cinema Surf
27 de novembro Lisbon Yoga Festival

até lá

November is a month to go within after the energy of a good summer. It is the month in which we are ruled by libra - the planet known good for connections. a great time to look inside and do some research on what goes in the soul. still, listen and focus on the direction you decide to follow.

since I saw the DiCaprio documentary, my activist or conscious soul rose again. again I have been thinking a lot about the environment and the life we are living and how come we believe in this big illusion of constant growth - and yet we are destroying the most beautiful blessing we were offered, this amazing planet we were gifted to be part of.

until we rise up and free ourselves, I leave some easy suggestions to help the environment, a quote of my book.
"Although I do not eat meat, I do not take sides on this subject. I would just like to warn you that if your food includes animals, its good to be conscious about the way they are being raised. just going to the grocery store and buying what's on the shelves without questioning its provenance is an inappropriate choice in our times.
It is good to reflect. under what conditions were raised the animals you are given to eat? the reality of intensive animal farming can not be ignored. It is time for us to feel what we eat and take action (not buying) highly processed foods».

And because today is election day in the US, an election reflecting a major crisis of conscience ... I  leave another suggestion. meditate, meditate to create a more conscious world - together we have the power to change the energy of the planet into a collective conscious of presence. and nothing less than this must be our desire.

Always spreading love this month of November I will be giving classes and presenting the book in the following places:

see you soon

Black Moon

30.10.16

EN
Today is a very special day.

Diwali in India the festival of the lights ~ light your inner light and maintain some silence with your eyes closed. honor the divine light within and feel the love and warmth inside your whole body. carry this love through your day and share this light with all the ones around you.
you are the light so shine and receive back.

today is also a Black Moon.
it is the second New Moon this month ~ so its called the black moon. the moon seats next to the sun, totally black and feels very personal, going within, so a great time to plant seeds of intention - what do you want to achieve in the next 30 days?
according to some astrologers this moon comes powerful and transformative, potentially even life changing. rest, become reflective and prepare for what comes. its very intimate and special.
since today is a black moon, you can go deeper in something hidden inside you… its the good time to face that dark side, as the Balinese always teaches us, to clear the space so you fill it with good things. yes it will feel emotional and dark but its facing the darkness inside us that we can grow.. we all know that.

Tania wrote me asking about this idea about not practicing Asthanga Yoga on moon days. Patthabi Jois was son of an astrologer so he was himself very connected to the planets and stars. the Ashtanga practice therefore is very influenced as well. also Moon days are, in spiritual societies as the Indian one, days for ceremonies and Guruji, being the respected person he was, celebrated and offered Pujas in these days.

so Ashtanga traditionally became a six day a week practice, with Saturdays, new and full moons off, as well as ladies holidays. I have to admit I was always a moon child, connected with the moon, talking with her and always believed she was listening to me. I remember in Macau she could be big and here in Portugal she can also be of a big intensity and beauty. I always felt it was kind of logic not to have such an intensive asana practice in such days. Just by looking at the sea and how much it is influenced by the moon it would just be obvious that as well touches us human beings.

I found this from the Ashtanga Yoga Center which might be helpful to Tania.
«And the facts are that like all things of a watery nature (human beings are about 70 percent water), we are affected by the phases of the moon. The phases of the moon are determined by the moon’s relative position to the sun.
Full moons occur when they are in opposition and new moons when they are in conjunction. Both sun and moon exert a gravitational pull on the earth. Their relative positions create different energetic experiences that can be compared to the breath cycle. The full moon energy corresponds to the end of inhalation when the force of prana is greatest. This is an expansive, upward moving force that makes us feel energetic and emotional, but not well grounded. The Upanishads state that the main prana lives in the head. During the full moon we tend to be more headstrong.
The new moon energy corresponds to the end of exhalation when the force of apana is greatest. Apana is a contracting, downward moving force that makes us feel calm and grounded, but dense and disinclined towards physical exertion.
Practicing Ashtanga Yoga over time makes us more attuned to natural cycles. Observing moon days is one way to recognize and honor the rhythms of nature so we can live in greater harmony with it».

So best we acknowledge the moon days, give her special attention, give her some offerings and prayers and set intentions. its starts a new cycle of 28 days, a practice of kindness, surrender and love might be just what feels good.

PT

Sankalpah, or personal path

teaching was not something you have dreamed about. my mother, an amazing teacher, has always been adored by her students, so I grew up to respect teachers, someone who inspires us and we keep forever in memory. I have some.
one day someone to whom I am grateful, asked me if I wanted to substitute for a month while going to India. five years later I know now that was the moment that a new window opened in my life.
today a student filled my heart saying he was never given an explanation of how to get into a certain posture. in this moments I always thank my teachers and my own practice that thought me to go into more subtle levels of myself.
I really love to teach. Its is as to discover a deeper truth of myself. if I wonder what my higher purpose is or how to be helpful ... what comes is wanting to study to learn to teach more again. this is my sankalpah that directs me all day, in the right direction. a gift. if I can share and inspire someone with what I have been blessed to learn, I am happy. I know how it feels to be when information is too rare. I am happy to share, as in the book. to give, to share, offering is my mission. as planting the seed of transformation.
teaching is fulfilling my sankalpah, my personal path. thank you to all who come to learn with me. it is an honor.

I will teaching on the 27th at 12h at Lisbon Yoga Fest
