Meditation for the full moon day 🌕 · meditação para lua cheia

30.4.18

PT
I journal. I breath. I take time to myself.
A base do yoga.
E então sentei-me a usufruir a lua, o meu espaço feminino, a minha respiração sem nada para me tirar daqui.
Respire. Usufrua. Sinta. Como se sente agora?

I journal. I breath. I take time to myself.
That was the intention I wanted to put on this full moon day. To wake up and write.
Honestly I miss it, I have not been regular .. but having a blog is like that. It's being us. At least the way I do it. I love the likes and comments but they are not the reason for me to write in first place. They are the answer that I feel from you who read me - still today I am sensitized when I see that you are there. I write as a practice, as an extension of myself. And sometimes we loose the practice, yes I know it and its ok. As long as you are the truth and in truth with yourself, all is good.
Today is full moon day and in the traditional method of Ashtanga Yoga this is a resting day. We do not practice asanas, which means that we also do not teach Mysore style. In other words, I woke up and meditated freely without pressure of hours because all the time I had I could stay and meditate. I meditated ... I meditated.
More and more I am connected with meditation. A asana practice of almost 14 years gives us a different way of seeing and feeling. I think I'm only now beginning to understand how to work my personal asana practice. The basis of yoga. That allows you to understand meditation as the body and mind are prepared.
And today I woke up and meditated without time as well because my daughters stayed with Grandma and thus I started my week .. a full moon and no mama work is not common!
And then I sat down to enjoy the moon, my feminine space, my breath with nothing to get me out of here.
Today I offer you a simple meditation.
Sit on the floor comfortably and cross-legged. If necessary, place a cushion or a block under the buttocks, so that your hips are above your knees, thus protecting them. The hands can be placed gently above the knees.
Focus on inspiration and exhalation, feeling the air coming in and out of the lungs and nostrils. Gently. Inspiration breathing time should be the same as expiration time.
Count to 4 on an inspiration, hold your lungs full for a second and exhale smoothly and gently counting to 4 again.
When breathing in, bring air into the lungs and into the entire rib cage, expanding the chest and opening the heart. Bring as much air into yourself as you can.
When exhaling, do it in a controlled and calm way, throwing the air out while softly shrinking the belly, thus not losing your rise posture. Whenever you feel yourself going, come back, return to the sacred space of practice.
Repeat this exercise for 10 cycles. At the end, keep your eyes closed and continue breathing freely.
Finally, open your eyes and feel lightness in mind and body. If you do not have time for more, this morning and evening exercise before bedtime is a great way to get into this inner peace path.
Feel. Enjoy this journey of being and embodiment. How do you feel now?

girls moon days - what to do according to the lady of yoga

18.1.17

PT
hoje o post é dedicado a ti querida Inês.

Today is for you my dear sister. you girl, woman, source of energy, strength, warmth - you that just completed this beautiful feminine age of 40, this beautiful time when all seems start making sense, just by being as you are and accepting the journey as it is filled with joy and clarity. fits you so well dear Ines.
I am so proud of you. for being such a brave angel joining every time my yoga classes, for literally challenging governments and stablished powers to be there, for fighting for your space in the «normal» society, creating space to have that one hour for you, that one hour when you can breath, because you know and recognize how important it is finally to be able to breathe for simple 60 minutes even if breathing in its fullness still seems a Herculean task of knowing the true deep effects. But you trust the process with a strength of a light warrior. I am so proud of you. You mother, woman, sister, daughter - you are an example and an inspiration for all of us.
And because today it is for you - here is what you asking me all the time: how is it to practice in our Moon days?
I will tell you what the mother of my Teacher, the Yoga lady, the daughter of Pattabhi Jois - Saraswati Jois, told me, and from whom I published an interview she blessed me with a few years ago.
Saraswati has the name of a goddess and she herself embodies with simplicity the legacy that life has presented her.
Being a woman, a mother and a grandmother she has a very feminine perspective. She believes in an equal practice for men and women, but warns that "we are physically different, so we must take this difference into account".

FV: Why is it that women should not practice ashtanga yoga during the first three days of their period?
RSJ: For some women it is very difficult to practice during these days, because of pain or that they bleed a lot. Most women work a lot and need to rest and to take it easy for three days every month - it is very important! It is not good for the body to practice hard during the days when you bleed the most and during the period women should not do Salamba Sarvangasana or Sirsasana. Here, in India according to the Brahman tradition the woman rest these days, she does not cook and does not even go into the kitchen. Other women cook for her and she eats and sleeps a lot!

FV: Is there a more subtle explanation for this Saraswati?
RSJ: That is to let the body rest the three first days of the period so that the menstruation cycle is not disturbed. For some women, who do not rest from the practice those days, the period may disappear or becomes irregular and it can be difficult for them to become pregnant. The organs in the body are purified through the asanas and that is very good, but not during these days. It is also important to eat properly. Many women say that they do not want to eat dairy products, but women who practice yoga need milk and ghee twice a day. Especially ghee is important because it cools the body. In the yoga practice the body becomes very hot and you sweat a lot. It is not good to eat too much ghee, though, and the ghee should be pure and of good quality. One teaspoon in the morning and in the evening is enough. If you eat pure ghee you do not have to be worried about getting too much cholesterol. My father likes ghee a lot and he used to have maybe a little bit too much of it in his food - I had to tell him not to, ha ha ha! After giving birth, the woman should also eat ghee and drink milk to recover.
