Yoga was declared Unesco´s world heritage - this is such great and beautiful news! I love as a journalist to support good and positive news.
Yoga, an ancient Indian discipline, joined the intangible cultural heritage list compiled by Unesco, the United Nations Organisation for Education, Science and Culture. «The Intergovernmental Committee unanimously took the decision on 1st December during its annual session that took place in Addis Abeba, Ethiopia», states the text. The 24 members of the Committee adopted the resolution in recognition of yoga’s «influence on Indian society, from health and medicine to education and the arts”».
Yoga is a sanskrit word which means to unite. Tou unite what? The mind with the body and soul. All as a one. The benefits of this ancient Indian discipline have now been recognised by Unesco.
Unesco´s decision adding yoga to world heritage list, highlights how this practice is important for «unifying the mind with the body and soul to allow for greater mental, spiritual and physical wellbeing». In addition, «it is practised by the young and old without discriminating against gender, class or religion» and «consists of a series of poses, meditation, controlled breathing, word chanting and other techniques designed to help individuals build self-realization, ease any suffering they may be experiencing and allow for a state of liberation», can be read in Unesco´s text .
A little background
Developed in India, Krisnamacharya, considered the father of Modern Yoga, said «Yoga is the greatest gift from India to humanity». Its origins go back to unmemorable times, into Antique times.  Already by then, the practice aknowledged a person as a unity.
The first historical document concerning this practice was outlined by the Indian philosopher Patanjali whose life is veiled in mystery. The legend inspires he lived between 500 and 200 a.C. His work, «The Yoga Sutras», is still considered the reference book of those who perform the discipline.
I here translate some sentences of my book Yoga-me about my perception of Yoga.
«Yoga is a life-style, being good with life and us. Eating well, having a daily practice, staying strong, feeling healthy. Its a search for the Love, a door to the heart opening and the stillness of the mind. As when in a full moon night we see the reflection of the moonlight in a calm and serene lake. It becomes, therefore, a daily search for that state of perfection and oneness. we wish to be that peace. In the moment we start experiencing this way of living, life transforms. We understand that, at the end, this is just a journey filled with the ups and the downs, the challenges, the circumstances, the moments. We can then grow the way of surf life, because the final rest remains to be within».
as a suggestion I leave movie about yoga   and wish everyone a warmy and nourishing season..
